KafueKafue is Africa's second largest National Park and is one of the few places that can genuinely be compared to the size of a small country; it’s easy to get lost in areas of this park! The Northern Busanga Plains are where the game is most impressive. It is here that you will find the best camps, and enjoy safaris to rival the quality of those anywhere in the country. For the most part this is an undiscovered park; regarded by safari buffs as a rare gem.
The attraction of the Luangwa valley and the Lower Zambezi has meant that Kafue attracts substantially less tourists. Both the Luangwa and the Lower Zam also encourage long stays meaning Kafue is often left out of itineraries. However, Kafue is sought after by safari enthusiasts for exactly this reason - it is rare to see other travellers whilst staying here.
Huge plains in the North are stacked with game that attracts healthy predator concentrations. Kafue is also reputedly home to the widest diversity of antelope on the continent, including rare Sitatunga and huge herds of Roan and Sable. The bird life here is also superb, regarded as one of Africa’s finest locations for serious twitchers. The South of the park, however, epitomises the real essence of Kafue; days can be spent here without seeing a soul - you can literally lose yourself for a week. Big rivers run through the remainder of the park offering some of Africa’s finest fishing spots and superb boating trips; the diversity of habitat in Kafue is exceptional. Night drives are often as productive for leopard as the Luangwa! Kafue: Accommodation choices
Busanga is home to three of the country's finest properties. Wilderness Safaris’ Shumba and Kapinga have two of the best locations in the park and offer levels of service and accommodation to rival anywhere. The famous Busanga Bushcamp has an authentic charm that epitomises the plains and takes the mantle as office favourite.
Recommended lodges in this area:
Kufue
Definitely one of Kafue’s best camps Wilderness Safaris Shumba Camp has a great setting and a real emphasis on the luxury experience. The area is visited by few guests so safaris here are very exclusive and the quality of guiding set very high.
Kafue
The quality of the camp certainly satisfies a more luxurious clientele than nearby Busanga Plains Camp. We do believe that Kapinga is not quite as polished a safari camp as the excellent nearby Shumba Camp but Kapinga’s selling point however is its size.
Kafue
Busanga Bush Camp is one of our favorite camps in the Kafue. Originally a privately run camp, Wilderness Safaris now run Busanga and have still left the lodge with its original charm.
