Kalahari Plains Camp, Wilderness Safaris

The Kalahari desert immediately sounds lifeless and baron…it is far from it. It is one of the most diver habitats in the world and home to as much of Botswana big game and plains game as the other areas. There are only two camps in the Kalahari Game Reserve and Kalahari Plains is one of them, run by Wilderness Safaris this is a must for any Botswana safari. If time permits, we highly recommend a few nights here whether it be the dry or wet season as both are phenomenal times to visit.

Kalahari Plains Camp - The Details

Kalahari Plains Camp is perfectly situated overlooking an immense pan granting you endless horizons and beautiful skies. It comprises eight en-suite canvas units with a sleep-out above each from which to enjoy moonlit or star-studded nights. The main area consists of a lounge and dining area with a swimming pool and deck. Solar power provides all the electricity and hot water in the camp and insulated canvas walls and roof keep temperatures inside the units comfortable.
Kalahari Plains has access to great wildlife all year round, but with the advent of the summer rains, the desert comes to life and the plains game come into their own such as springbok and gemsbok converge in their hundreds to graze, followed by lion, one of the highest concentrations of cheetah in southern Africa and leopard.

Kalahari - Reviews

Kalahari Plains was certainly worth visiting, not least to see the rather unusual mix of wildlife and terrain. Whilst much of the terrain was surprisingly green, it is misleading - the lack of reliable surface water appears to restrict what can survive there to mostly the specialists. We saw the black maned lions, and had several unexpected sightings such as Eland. Vast numbers of Oryx! The camp itself was fairly average by Wilderness standards.
