Selinda Canoe Trail - The Details
It is a totally unique experience which allows guests to explore the Selinda Spillway from Late May to early September. The trail has only flowed since 2009, after exceptional rains in Botswana and there are chances that it will dry up again – so now is the time to do it!
There are set departures throughout for 2 - 8 people, but it can also be tailor-made for specific groups. It’s a 45 km Journey over the course of 5 days and 4 nights – with a lovely mixture of walking and canoeing, exploring in total and utter peace and quiet!
A support team will go ahead and set up camp for your arrival each day. You will spend the evenings camping in dome tents with comfortable roll-mattresses, soft linen and bucket showers with a long-drop loo. After a day drifting down the spillway and exploring areas of interest, watch the sun set with a gin and tonic in hand before a delicious meal cooked around your camp fire.
The boats themselves are very stable Canadian canoes, accommodating two paddlers in molded seats that are fixed to the canoe. The channel winds its way through vast tracts of bush home too many species of wildlife, including elephant, buffalo, lion, roan antelope, wild dog, hippo, giraffe and much more. Birding is of course phenomenal, and since the channel is essentially a river the game and birdlife of the area are still getting used to the idea of there being such an abundance of crystal clear water in a formally dry area!
