Very different from the likes of the Cape Grace and Mount Nelson, Ellerman House is a small, discreet, very luxurious boutique hotel which invites guests who are looking for a quiet and more private Cape Town stay. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean from above Bantry Bay, the setting is spectacular, with just a short drive to the Waterfront and a short walk to the beaches of Clifton or Camps Bay.
Ellerman House - The Details
Created for the enjoyment of the finer things in life, Ellerman House is small and discreet, offering only 11 rooms, 2 suites and a villa, all spacious and beautifully decorated. The setting is fantastic, high on the cliff behind Bantry Bay (about 20 minutes' drive from the Waterfront), overlooking the bay and with fantastic views of Robben Island, boats going to and from Cape Town port, and spectacular sunsets.
The style and ambiance are those of a luxurious English country house, with a variety of different areas in which to relax and enjoy the very distinguished and extensive art collection. The Ellerman Spa, which is contemporary and serene, offers a variety of treatments with internationally qualified therapists, alongside the fully-equipped gym and heated outdoor pool. The hotel does not accept children under 14 (except in the villa when it is booked as a whole) so the atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. Service is friendly and efficient, nothing is too much trouble.
Food and wine are a real treat here. The small team of chefs (working in full view of passing guests behind a glass wall) produce the highest standard of food, sourced locally and abroad. A guest pantry, well stocked with a variety of food and drink, is available to guests on a self-serve basis 24 hours a day. Ellerman House hosts a 7,500 bottle wine cellar representing the very best wines from South Africa's world-renowned estates - look out for the interactive wine gallery coming soon which promises to be a one-of-a-kind remarkable experience.
Unlike most hotels, this is the kind of place where one could happily spend several days just soaking up the luxury....
