Selinda Camp - The Details
Selinda Camp, one of Botswana's premier camps is located on the private Selinda Reserve in the Linyanti region of Northern Botswana. It is between a 45 and 1.5 hour flight from Maun and about 45 minutes from Kasane if coming from Chobe National Park. The airstrip is about a 10 minute drive to a pontoon where you take a boat to the camp, another 10 minutes.
The camp is situated on the northern side of the Zibadiaja lagoon, close to the Selinda spillway, so it’s surrounded by fertile land and oasis of food for animals. It shares the Selinda reserve with Zarafa, the more up market of the two camps, which is located on the other side of the huge lagoon. The camp is truly remote and miles from anywhere giving you a very wild feel to it.
The camp itself is lovely, looking out over a big flood plain from the Zibadiaja lagoon. It is nestled quietly in small island with very little impression on the environment. The camp is part owned by Dereck and Beverly Joubert who filmed the famous Eye of the Leopard, so you can imagine the care taken in designing it. The curio shop is full of their wonderful creations.
The mains area is split into 3 areas raised up on a massive wooden decking. A large lounge borders the dinning area and in front of that, just a bit lower is small relaxing zone that looks out onto the view. A bit off to the side is a fire and boma area and just behind the main structure, in the thick of the island is a Zanzibar-esq swimming pool area.
The camp consists of three suites and a two bedroom thatched villa are of exceptional quality. Massive beds and semi antique style furniture in the rooms give an old Africa ambience. Behind the main room is an enourmous bathroom with a shower and free standing bath! Each room has its own deck to enjoy the scenes and sunsets. For some, it’s a sunrise.
The Selinda is characterised by its game-rich floodplains which are host to a variety of bird life (300+), antelope, zebra, cheetah, wild dog, lion and dry season elephant concentrations. Nocturnal species include serval, porcupine, springhare and possibly leopard. An Africa Safari
unrivalled by any other, Selinda Camp is a favourite of everyone at Africa Odyssey.
Daily activities revolve around morning, afternoon and night game drives with experienced, professional guides in custom-built 4x4 Land Cruisers. Short walks from camp accompanied by a guide are encouraged to get to know some of the Selinda's smaller creatures. Boating, fishing and night drives are also available.
