Kwando ReserveThe Kwando Reserve is one of Botswana's most famous reserves. This absolutely vast reserve offers prime game viewing in an exclusive environment; it is one of Africa's finest places to view big game. The concentration of elephant and buffalo herds here beggar belief and together with all the vast predator numbers, this makes for some explosive game driving. The diversity of activities in the reserve; including day and night drives, walking and boating safaris creates a great all round experience.
Guiding is of the highest order; Kwando Safaris are one of Africa's most serious safari companies. The company ethos is to focus on the overall safari experience rather than the opulent hospitality style of many of Botswana's other top end camps. They are the only company in the country to have a guide and tracker with each vehicle. It is this approach and commitment to the safari experience that has made Kwando Safaris one of the most respected in the industry.
The Kwando Reserve has also become recognised as one of the premier places in Africa to view the endangered African Wild Dog. Over the last eight years, Kwando have been lucky to have dogs denning in their reserve every year. Subsequently, if you travel from May to July, the chance of seeing pups is high and viewing dogs at any time of the year is a real possibility. It is also worth bringing attention to the fact that the elephant population in the high season months (August, September and October) is so high that the camps often stop walking safaris completely! Big game is in abundance in this reserve. Kwando: Time of year to travel
As with the majority of Botswana’s big game areas, the Kwando Reserve comes into its peak game viewing season from the 1st July, with the very best months being August, September and October. For those in search of dogs - the packs here tend to den anytime from May to July and then stay in the area for the following three months until the pups can travel with the pack.
Kwando: Accommodation choices
There are only two camps in the Kwando Reserve. Lebala is the flagship of the Kwando Safaris operation and has become widely accepted as one of the country's top camps. Famous for its high predator concentrations and superb game viewing, Lebala is a truly superb camp loved by safari enthusiasts. The northern Lagoon Camp is a quieter, more laid back camp, located in an area with immense volumes of elephant and buffalo. It is around Lagoon that the Wild Dogs tend to den. Both camps are somewhat similar in style, yet due to the habitat and game viewing areas being slightly different in both locations, there is much to be said for combining both camps.

Kwando
Located on the edges of a natural flood land, Lebala camp has slowly become reknowned for both its superb guiding and excellent location in the Kwando concession. One of the best things about using all of the Kwando camps, in our opinion, is that, with an extra spotter used on game drives, the chances of seeing everything around are that much higher.
Kwando
The sister camp to Lebala, Lagoon camp has a slightly different focus. Located right on the border between Namibia and Botswana, the camp overlooks the Kwando river that flows gently along the border.
