Sur is relaxed coastal town, situated to the Eastern coast of Oman.
The town of Sur has striking traditional buildings with a labyrinth of streets with many traditional houses with carved doors, domes and Arabesque windows. The Dhow (traditional boats) are world renowned, especially as legend has that Sur was the home of the Legendary Sinbad the sailor. It is a excellent destination to rent a boat for a few days and explore the Omani Coast line. The Turtles of Ras Al Jinaiz, a protected wildlife area is also highly recommend in this area for the nature enthusiasts out there.
As a port city, the history of Sur is palpable around every turn and under every white-washed stone. The shipyards even today produce wooden vessels which were such an integral part of their history, making this a history enthusiast's dream. If you are a lover of naval history then this is well worth a visit. Generally, apart from sauntering around exploring the local history and also a few relaxed boat rides, this is a seadise city to relax in. Soak in the horizontal atmosphere and enjoy being somewhere completely different in a beautiful Omanian time warp.
If you aren't partial to too much relaxation, there is also two forts to visit, souqs and some nearby beaches. Further a field, you have some really beautiful spots including Tiwi and the turtle reserve at Ras Al Jinz.
