KWARA CAMP
Okavango Delta
Kwara Camp: Our ViewKwara Camp is a really great camp set in a lovely area of the Okavango. As we wrote in our report on Little Kwara, what we really love about Kwando is their dedication to the client experience. They focus so much on the quality of their guides and providing a real safari atmosphere in camp that they have become incredibly well regarded by safari connoisseurs. The location is just as good and with easy access to main river channels of the Okavango they have the full range of activities on offer. We do prefer Little Kwara as the camp is just that little bit more intimate… but we have always loved Kwara! Kwara gets 4 paws. It does not try to be anything it is not. No crystal chandeliers or A la Carte menus, but this product gives you a raw African safari experience with the best local guides in the area. Kwara Camp: The DetailKwara Camp is located on the enormous Kwara concession in the North-East of the Okavango Delta. The camp is only as 20 to 40 minute flight from Maun depending on the routing of the aircraft. The airstrip is about a 15 minute game drive from the camp. The main area of the camp is split into 3 sections. There is the dining room where communal meals take place. Opposite the dining room is the lounge where you can relax after a long day out in the bush, play board games and read books, and in front of both areas is a sandy fire area with camp chairs round a fire, looking over the lagoon. The teak furniture created by Zimbabwean master craftsmen is elegant, comfortable and simple. Most of the tents are raised on teak decks to afford views over the surrounding plains and lagoon with the resident hippos. The camp consists of 8 luxury tents accommodating 16 guests. There is one honeymoon suite with a bath. The rooms are not in-your-face luxury but are extremely comfortable and quality and have everything you need. Kwando Safaris was founded to give their guests a true African safari – just what you would expect - but more. Kwando have custom designed vehicles to make your drives super comfortable and most of all, each vehicle has a tracker and a guide. Here you can also night drive, do walking safaris, mokoro trips and boat trips. The Kwara concession is regarded as one of the most diverse areas of the Delta, offering superb variety between different habitats. Because of this it attracts some excellent animal numbers and a large range of species. Most of all, it is great for predators! Kwara Camp: Client Reviews
Kwara was a good place to start off. We were fortunate in having George as our driver/guide - mature, very well informed about all the wildlife and with a good sense of humour. As there were four of us we mostly went on drives on our own with George and a spotter, although the camp was full. The rest of the staff were very helpful and friendly. The accommodation was very adequate and certainly a far cry from our first safari experience in 1985, with electric light, running water and flushing loos now! The food was fine - although the Christmas turkey was the size of an average chicken and meant to feed about 20 of us! Plentiful wine and all sorts of spirits though.
We enjoyed the dance/singing routine before dinner (twice), which was just as much for the staff's benefit as the punters'. There were plenty of animals to see - lots of lion, elephants, giraffe etc. at close range to the camp and, of course, loads of birds. The river safari was good once they had got the boat working and fortunately the punters at little Kwara (friends of Matthew's) came to our rescue several times when the boat stalled! D Jeans, 2011 Lebala and Kwara are both amazing camps where we had great sightings. It was a real privilege to experience the skills of the trackers who managed to find (far from the road) three cheetah on the hunt, following by a kill, and also a huge male leopard who was also on the move. Our requests for early morning drives rather than walking or other activities were accepted so we were really able to make the best of our availabe time in both camps. It really makes a difference to be able to get off road, which is the main difference with these camps compared to Muchenje, and again it was great fun when the guides were being put through their paces to move the vehicles around some dense bush and having to jump out occassionally to free us from inconveniently placed tree stumps etc. And even when we were supposed to be chilling out between game drives there was so much to see in both places - what with all the birds and herbivores just wandering past the lodges. I can't say that I have even any constructive criticism in respect of our stays at these camps - just wish we could go back sometime to enjoy not just the wonderful game viewing but the marvellous hospitality that we were shown everywhere we went. Thanks so much for organising our trip, and as always I will continue to recommend you to friends and family. Little Kwara is the sister camp to Kwara itself and again, Kwando have come up with the goods! The main reason we love Kwando is their dedication to the client experience.

There is no doubt that this concession hosts some of the best game in Botswana and yet Chitabe itself is such a good price compared with elsewhere (this camp really could sell for more and still be full all year!).

Nxabega is a good tented camp. It is not a glamorous tented camp but it fits the &Beyond model of good standards of accommodation with great levels of guiding and high quality food and service.
