NXABEGA

Okavango Delta

Nxabega: Our View

Nxabega is a good tented camp. It is not a glamorous tented camp but it fits the &Beyond model of good standards of accommodation with great levels of guiding and high quality food and service. The rooms are smart but not the type to set you alight and the communal areas are similar. Given the price tag, they should be more appealing. To add to the shame of the accommodation standard, the area is nice but it is not known for its concentrations of large game. It is a very tranquil spot with pockets of interesting animals and a variety in terrain.

Although not the most full on game experience you will find in the delta, Nxabega offers a lovely welcome break from those get up and go type camps giving it a tranquil atmosphere making it different. It gets a good 4 paws.

Nxabega: The Detail

Nxabega is nestled in the Kuruneraga concession, south of Moremi National Park, only a 20 minute flight from Maun. The concession has a great variety of water and dry land making for very picturesque scenery and the topography allows a range of activities. The airstrip is only a 5 minute drive away from the camp.

The magnificent elevated main building is constructed in local timber, reed and thatch with sweeping views over the plains in front. It’s very cosy and doesn’t try to be anything it isn’t.

All tents have an en suite shower and W.C. and are elegantly furnished with wardrobes, luggage racks, chairs, dressing tables and side tables. The rooms are all dotted along a water front that lines a big flood plain and are generously spaced out.
The camp, run by a great bunch of  &Beyond Staff, comprises a dining room, sitting room and expansive decking areas to lounge around on, sip gin and tonics and watch game directly from camp. There is an outside dining area and a swimming pool for afternoon dips when the sun gets too strong and sun loungers for much needed siestas.

Early one evening, my tracker and I were on our way back to camp from a mokoro ride when we heard several monkeys making alarming noises. We stopped and looked around, but saw nothing. All of a sudden we heard a growl. We moved closer and spied two male lions feeding on a hyena! The one male was ...

16 Aug 2007
We have posted a couple of sightings on wildwatch.com earlier this year about a female leopard and her two cubs, a male and female. The good news is that we are starting to view the young male quite close to the lodge on a fairly regular basis, which means he will hopefully establish a territory ...

Nxabega:      Elephant Bull in Camp
17 Jul 2007
I woke up this morning with a large tree-braking-noise outside my tent, and upon investigating I saw our resident elephant bull in camp. He was in a very relaxed mood, and was feeding around my tent for more than an hour. Luckily he moved away around 7 am so I could actually get to work. Talk about ...

Sandibe…..Sandibe….Sandibe. Imagine a beautiful area of the Okavango with plentiful game including all the predators and fairly regular sightings of wild dog. The location has all the settings of a superb lodge.

The teak furniture created by Zimbabwean master craftsmen is elegant, comfortable and simple. Most of the tents are raised on teak decks to afford views over the surrounding plains and lagoon with the resident hippos.
Kwando
Located on the edges of a natural flood land, Lebala camp has slowly become reknowned for both its superb guiding and excellent location in the Kwando concession. One of the best things about using all of the Kwando camps, in our opinion, is that, with an extra spotter used on game drives, the chances of seeing everything around are that much higher.
