South Atolls, Maldives

South Atolls in the Maldives
The south atolls can be reached by seaplane or plane from Male International Airport and are usually about an hour away.

These atolls include Faafu Atoll, Vaavu Atoll, Meemu Atoll, Thaa Atoll and Dhaalu Atoll, and hotels include Filitheyo (Faafu Atoll), Six Senses Latitude (Laamu Atoll), Centara Grand, Lilly Beach and Lux.

As well as a much quieter feel than the islands around Male the lodges in the South offer superb watersports including snorkelling for whalesharks - with a 50% 50% chance of seeing these gentle giants. In most parts, the southern atolls is no good for surfing, which means many will flock instead to the North to ride the waves. However, in the pockets where surfers can get a break, the southern atolls offers complete paradise in a remote and truly lovely part of the world. Down on the southern shores of the southern atoll, find the most challenging of waves and for real pros, this could be a trip you will never forget. For the divers out there, this part of the Maldives also offers some truly amazing underwater experience which would be most enjoyed by those who dislike a crowd!!

For the relaxers out there, Velassaru boasts beautiful shores which are actually sloghtly less white than other Maldives options, but it makes up for this in being an expert in all things beach shack chic. As one of  the most underated fishing and surfing spots in the world, the southern atolls really seems to quietly have it all...
