Our View
Located 35 minutes flight off Pemba in Northern Mozambique, Quilalea is a stunning private island where various owners have repeatedly attempted to establish a top end beach lodge. Southern Mozambique’s ‘Azura’ company have recently re-opened the island and the industry is willing them to succeed. The islands remote location has long been its appeal, but also its downfall. The tricky logistics of travelling to the area and sketchy reliability of airlines that have operated flights here have put off many clients. However the reward of putting in the extra effort is one of the continents finest private islands. We absolutely love it.
Our View
For large groups or families the 2 private Vamizi Villas are the best beach villas in Africa, and offer exceptionally good value when staying in groups of 12 or more. Set in their own private grounds on this 12km tropical island the villas are separate to Vamizi Lodge with private management for each villa, incredible food and access to the one of the best beaches on the east coast of Africa.
Our View
The newest lodge to open in Mozambique. Guludo is actually on the mainland just North of Pemba and within the Quirimbas National Park. Set on a stunning and unspoilt stretch of the Indian Ocean the 9 spacious tented bandas give panoramic views through the netted walls, creating a feeling of being outside while inside.
Our View
Vamizi Island is located in the Quirimbas Archipelago in Northern Mozambique. Well recognised as one of Africa’s finest beach lodges, Vamizi is one of the few places in Africa that genuinely competes with the worlds top beach destinations. The lodge itself is stunning and with 7 kilometres of virtually private beach, untouched diving reefs and incredible fishing waters Vamizi’s location is exceptional. In our view Vamizi is the only contender to Tanzania’s Mnemba Island as the best beach property in Africa.
Our View
Ibo Island Lodge is a lovely unique property in Mozambique’s Quirimbas Archipelago. Set in the midst of the old town of Ibo, an ancient trading centre for the region, the lodge looks directly out over the bay and has the best location in town. The accommodation is of a high standard and for clients wanting to explore the town and history of the area then this is a great little lodge. However, we believe Ibo does not give clients access to the areas best beaches and for that reason we tend to recommend clients only stay here for a couple of days to explore the town, but then leave to relax at other lodges where beaches are substantially better.
Our View
It is a new lodge that in our view is still to really prove itself, However it is set in an idyllic and romantic location offering the perfect start or end to a honeymoon. The lodge is also very generously priced and have a great service. But the issue with it is getting there as it is a lot of travelling.
