Mozambique is a huge country. In land, their safari is not developed as in it’s neighbours. Therefore, Mozambique is primarily a beach destination. The lodges on offer here are best in the very south, or the very north. Generally prices for a beach break in Mozambique begin from around $420 per person per night, and go all the way up to $25,000 for a villa.
The best and pretty one off beach lodge in southern Mozambique is White Pearl, which is utterly gorgeous. It is $420 per person per night and at the moment is pretty much the only option for a Mozambique beach escape. This is because, in the north the popular beach islands of the Quirimbas Archipelagos have a tourism warning at the moment, which means we wouldn’t send clients there at this time. Other than that, the Bazaruto Archipelago has an array of hotels which are very nice, but which are also very expensive for what you get. We would advise looking at other beach options at this time for that reason, unless you love the look of White Pearl (which is miles away from the troubles in the north).

Azura Bazaruto - Benguerra Island
Our View
We regard Azura as a great choice of lodge to experience a complete getaway from normal daily lives. Most importantly, it is located in a national park which offers this sense of remoteness coupled with nature. Azura have taken all of this into account when designing the lodge and its features to create Mozambiques first proper eco lodge. Each of the individually designed rooms are just feet from the beaches of a typical Indian ocean paradise.Cost: $795
Bazaruto Lodge - Bazaruto Archipelago
Our View
The key for us at Bazaruto is to use it as a base to explore the surrounding beaches and reefs; it is not somewhere to spend days at the lodge itself. This the most economical and arguably the best value lodge in the Bazaruto Archipelago. The recent refurbishment has made this lodge a great choice.Cost: $330
Benguerra &Beyond - Benguerra Island
Our View
This lodge is guideline for others to follow; service is exemplary and not intrusive. You can be left completely on your own or encouraged to do as much as possible and either way, it feels like home.Cost: $525
Guludo - Quirimbas Archipelago
Our View
The newest lodge to open in Mozambique. Guludo is actually on the mainland just North of Pemba and within the Quirimbas National Park. Set on a stunning and unspoilt stretch of the Indian Ocean the 9 spacious tented bandas give panoramic views through the netted walls, creating a feeling of being outside while inside.Cost: $345
Ibo Island Lodge - Quirimbas Archipelago
Our View
Ibo Island Lodge is a lovely unique property in Mozambique’s Quirimbas Archipelago. Set in the midst of the old town of Ibo, an ancient trading centre for the region, the lodge looks directly out over the bay and has the best location in town. The accommodation is of a high standard and for clients wanting to explore the town and history of the area then this is a great little lodge. However, we believe Ibo does not give clients access to the areas best beaches and for that reason we tend to recommend clients only stay here for a couple of days to explore the town, but then leave to relax at other lodges where beaches are substantially better.Cost: $330
Medjumbe - Quirimbas Archipelago
Our View
It is a new lodge that in our view is still to really prove itself, However it is set in an idyllic and romantic location offering the perfect start or end to a honeymoon. The lodge is also very generously priced and have a great service. But the issue with it is getting there as it is a lot of travelling.Cost: $530
Quilalea - Quirimbas Archipelago
The island is beautiful and we had a fantastic time. The helicopter transfer makes it a lot of fun. The room was great and the snorkelling was fantastic fun. The reef was less than 5m from the shore! The food was excellent but the included wine was poor compared to the safaris. The main criticism here would be the cost of the extras. The activities and spa treatments were very expensive. For example, kayaking is free but guided kayaking was $25ppph. For us that was $75ph for not very much in return. There is no way that reflects the real cost. The Spa treatments were also hugely expensive (it would be cheaper in a 5 start London hotel). Finally, we wanted to visit Ibo. It was a 40 minute boat trip but we had to go by helicopter at $220 pp. for a 3 hour trip. Whilst Ibo is interesting it is not really worth that sort of money. Tipping was also a bit rich. There was suggested tipping at $10-20 pppd for our “butler". Whilst the guy was charming he didn’t do very much. He served breakfast, lunch and dinner and brought us pre-dinner drinks. It seemed a bit excessive given what guides on safari do. The suggested tipping for the remainder of the staff was also $10-20 pppd which looked pricey for a beach resort. I accept that tips are important to supplement salary but I did wonder if the owners were upping the tipping guidance in order that they could get away with lower salaries. It just felt a little bit more exploitative that the other hotels. - G Gibb UK

Santorini Mozambique - Mozambique Mainland
Our View
If you were to pick up Santorini, plonk it in Mozambique and springle some African magic on it, this hotel would be the result. On the mainland coast, Santorini is a blissful island escape, with sweeping ocean views, scrumptious food and calming accommodation.

Sussurro - Sussurro
Our View
Sussurro is incredibly chic. The minimalist design is sleek and fitting among the to-and-fro of the natural world, as turquoise waters lazily lap white sands all within view from your bed. It’s a fantastic place to slow right down and simply enjoy being in a beautiful place.
