Al Hajar Mountains

The Hajar mountains are Oman’s geological backbone, the spectacular mountain range extends all the way along the east coast of the country, from Sur to the Musandam Peninsula. The main focus for most visits to the region is the famous old town of Nizwa but we also highly recommend heading off the beaten track into the rugged landscape.
Visit dramatic wadis, such as Wadi Nakher located in the depth of Oman's deepest canyon and enjoy incredible views from Jebel Shams, the highest summit in Oman. There are some interesting traditional villages to visit, including Al Hamra and Misfat al Abryeen plus a number of the country’s finest forts, including those at Bahla and Jabrin.
Jebel al Akhdar is famed for its fruit orchards, which are laid out in terraces along the mountains and high quality pomegranates are also grown.  Rose water is produced by local villagers and the damask roses of Jebel al Akhdar fill the air with fragrance when in full bloom during March and April.
The best time to visit is between October and March, when the weather is cooler and you can explore this extraordinary landscape in 4 x 4’s or take to the mountains paths on foot.  Either way – this is a amazing Mountain Range will leave you in total awe.
