Masandam Peninsula

The Masandam Peninsula, is an isolated haven of steep jagged mountains, Stunning rock fjords and the irresistable waters of the Strait of Hormuz.
Seperated from the rest of Oman in 1960’s, Musandam remains isolated in the North West Corner of the UAE.  It is the one of the areas most remote regions, know principally for its incredible rock fjords know as Khors and the jagged mountains that surround the coastline.  Its waters are teeming with marine life and dolphins making it an excellent destination for water sports - sailing, diving, water skiing and kayaking.

The main town is Khasab and just a few other towns and villages which cling to bays at the foot of near-vertical rock walls that soar to over 2,000m.

Deep fjord-like channels cut into this rock and provide the playground for divers and those exploring by dhow. The small coastal villages are settled by the region's semi-nomadic Shihuh tribes who make a living farming goats, terraced fields and fishing, whilst retaining a very traditional lifestyle.

If you have time to visit Musandam you’ll not only enjoy some of the region's best land and seascapes, but meet hospitable people who live their lives in a way found in few other places on earth. Diving for both beginners and the more experienced is possible from Khasab with large fish common in the area. Musandam is easily accessed via Dubai so combines well with a city break. From Muscat, it is rather a long drive and you may experience long queues at the border crossings, so a more exciting way of reaching Musandam is by boat.
