As much as the majority of our itineraries are based around Cape Town, the Garden Route and the Kruger there are a number of other parks worthy of a mention outside the main areas of South Africa that we focus on. South Africa has a number of private game reserves and ranches as well as beach destinations and trekking areas away from the main tourist hotspots. We design holidays throughout the country so the below is a summary of what we believe are the finest alternatives to the more popular top three.
Tswalu is a fantastic selection of world class game viewing lodges and wild reserves that we believe is the finest location in South Africa for authentic safari. Different to the more famous Kruger, Tswalu is a huge private game viewing area with a fine selection of big game and a character similar to the safari you find in much wilder destinations. Tswalu is also a superb destination for families.
Phinda Game Reserve, made famous by the luxurious operator &Beyond, is a selection of luxurious lodges that offer good game viewing and one of the countries finest destinations for family safari. Located to the North of Kwa Zulu Natal, Phinda offers a range of safari including boating and canoeing. A stunning destination and a break in the norm from the standard savannah game reserves. Rocktail Bay is a beautiful rugged beach reserve run by the luxury operator Wilderness Safaris. Located on a wild stretch of coast North of Durban, Rocktail Bay is not your classic beach destination but a truly wild coastline with miles of deserted beach, serious diving and a huge area of wilderness to explore inland.
