Our View
Sarara is the germination of the thoughts and beliefs of Ian Craig and Piers and Hilary Bastard, and is spectacular. Since 1977, the camps has worked alongside the local Samburu people in its conservation efforts, and the result is a superb example of how vital community projects are in successful conservation stories. Still managed by Piers and Hilary, Sara has kept its intimate and homely feel throughout the years. It is a great spot to steal a bit of relaxation, gain insights to the local community and visit Reteti Elephant Sanctuary. Game viewing is not going to rival the dense Masai Mara, but the secluded and other-worldly feel of being here is the major draw. The only slight drawback is that due to its remote location, it can be quite costly to get to - a small price to pay in our view.

Since it has recently changed hands, Kitich Camp has moved away from the once very rustic experience it was with Guilio. There is still no compromising on the experience, but with electricity throughout the night it is has a slightly softer feel. The onus is still, however, very much on getting out into this stunning region with walking a particular recommendation. If you are looking for a touch of utter wilderness and a great place to relax….the only drawback is getting there!
