Okavango Delta - Dry Camps
The Okavango's dry camps can offer game drives all year round, whereas the wet camps offer very little, if any, game driving when the Okavango is in full flood. The dry camps tend to have better game viewing when compared with the wet camps. There are some 'mixed camps' that compete with the quality of the game viewing in the dry camps (Vumbura, Shinde and the Kwara camps in particular) but on the whole, the dry camps have the Delta's best game viewing.
The Chitabe/Sandibe concession in the Southern Delta, virtually next to Maun itself, is consistently regarded as one of the best areas for game. One of our consultants is from Botswana and he regards this reserve as the best game viewing area in the whole Delta. Wilderness Safaris run the spectacular Chitabe and the three roomed Chitabe Lediba Camps, whilst &Beyond run Sandibe. All three camps effectively share the same game and can guarantee good and diverse viewing - with the added bonus of frequent wild dog sightings.
Duba Plains in the Northern Okavango, adjacent to Vumbura, is one of Africa's most famous camps. The concentration of lion up here was made famous by Derek and Beverley Joubert's fantastic wildlife film "Relentless Enemies", set in the Duba Concession. The 1,200 strong buffalo herd is in a constant duel with the lion prides and provides for some of the most explosive game viewing in Africa.

There is no doubt that this concession hosts some of the best game in Botswana and yet Chitabe itself is such a good price compared with elsewhere (this camp really could sell for more and still be full all year!).

With more lion than pretty much anywhere and the fact that diurnal hunting is pretty much guaranteed at Duba, any safari connoisseur will tell you that that this camp is an exceptionally rare little gem; the lion viewing here is just outstanding and is regularly ballistic.

Sandibe…..Sandibe….Sandibe. Imagine a beautiful area of the Okavango with plentiful game including all the predators and fairly regular sightings of wild dog. The location has all the settings of a superb lodge.
