Mauritius: Southern Beaches

The south coast of Mauritius is still relatively undeveloped, with some good new options for accommodation now extending across acres of the old Bel Ombre sugar plantation estates.
This southern region of the island tends to be cooler and more temperate than the north and also benefits from a dramatic coral reef, creating a protected lagoon for swimming and watersports with fantastic views of crashing surf on the horizon.

The sand here is a shade more yellow than the white coral sands of the east coast, but the beaches are fine and there is a good selection of accommodation.  Benefits of the south coast include the cooler climate, close proximity to the airport and a secluded, timeless atmosphere perfect for an African honeymoon.
