Located in their own private concession in the Northern sector of Akagera National Park, Magashi is the only camp for miles around. Being 100% solar powered, this eco lodge situated on the banks of Lake Rwanyakazinga is a serena and idyllic site that is a must visit for those wanting an off the beaten track safari experience.

Magashi Akagera

The camp itself comprises of six ensuite luxury canvas tent-style room which over look the stunning Rwanyakazinga. The elevated private deck for each room is the perfect place to rest and relax in between activities and allows you to post a whole host of wildlife without having to leave the comfort of your room.

Elevated walkways connect each tent to the main lodge which is made up of open and spacious bar, lounge and dining areas. The sizable pool is the main attraction during the heat of the day with a shaded deck and sun loungers for those not wanting to take a dip. With a minimum age of six years, a calm and sophisticated atmosphere is maintained throughout the camp at all times.

Access to Magashi is extremely easy. It is only a three-hour drive from Kigali to Akagera's Northern Gate (entry is only for Magashi guests), followed by a game drive of about half an hour to camp - although times may vary depending on the numerous excellent photographic and game viewing opportunities that may present themselves. If one travels to/from Volcanoes National Park, the drive time is around six or seven hours, however a quicker option is chartering a helicopter which has guests land at Magashi's own helipad.

Whilst staying at Magashi, two game viewing activities are possible per day. Located in its own private concession within the North East of Akagera, it is the most productive and diverse in the whole park. Whether you choose a game drive, a boating safari or a bush walk you can be sure of an enthralling and exhilarating safari. The diversity of flora and fauna includes Africa's 'Big 5' plus rarer animals like roan and sitatunga as well as over five-hundred bird species.

Not only is Akagera an incredible safari destination, but when combined with other Rwandan National Parks, you could be eligible for a 30% discount on your Volcanoes National Park gorilla trekking permit, adding to an already long list of reasons to visit this undiscovered utopia.
