Located in the extraordinarily remote Kidepo Valley National Park, Apoka is a must do for any safari die hards. The park is so far off the beaten track, right up in the North of Uganda on the border with South Sudan, that it just isn't right for every trip. But for those willing to commit to the time and expense of getting up here, it is well worth it - game viewing here is exceptional and the park has come to be known as Uganda's Serengeti (but with far less visitors than the real one!). Apoka has a prime location in the park and is brilliantly run, really the only option that we would recommend.
Apoka Lodge - The Details
Set atop a rocky outcrop in the Kidepo Valley, Apoka enjoys amazing views across the open Savannah. The 10 rooms are all well spaced and very private, bright and airy. All rooms boast large and comfortable hand crafted beds and well equipped en suite bathrooms. Each also has a sheltered verandah and huge stone outdoor bath, perfect for watching the world (and the wildlife!) go by of an evening.
The main area is spacious and friendly. Most meals are taken here, the food is very good and no request is too much. If the weather permits you may want to have dinner under the Sausage tree, out on the plain - for a truly wild bush dinner experience. The pool here is a good size too, hewn directly into one of the outcrops largest rocks. It's the perfect place to relax after a days game driving or out walking with the Kidepo bushmen.
