Baker's Lodge - The Details

Absolutely the pick of the bunch in Murchison Falls, this is a luxury lodge done very well. Each of the 10 safari suites offers lots of space and comfort and has a great view of the river. They are all raised on wooden platforms and are spaced well apart so are very private. The rooms themselves are light and airy with a spacious verandah perfect for an early morning coffee.

The main area consists of a large raised area on various levels and consists of a well stocked bar and restaurant. Breakfast overlooking the river as the sun rises is particularly special. Dinner here is to be savoured, the food is great and the tranquil setting is perfect. A short walk from the main area is the good size pool too, perfect for cooling off after a day on safari or a hike to the top of the Murchison Falls.

Whilst staying at Bakers, your boats trips practically leave from your door step and you can choose whether to go up or down river. Birding is a must for those avid twitchers and a game drive in the National Park will not leave you disappointed. Murchison Falls National Park is home to some beautiful wildlife, including four members of the big five. Although the game viewing is not as prevalant as the Mara or the Serengeti, due to the very few visitors the Park receives, any sighting you do have is often exclusive and intimate.

Although the journey to Murchison is quite a lengthy one, it is still fairly easy, there are a few internal flights to and from Entebbe as well as the Bwindi area, and it is only a 6 hour drive from Entebbe on good roads - The Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary on the way is a great way to break up the journey. Here you can explore the sanctuary that is home to the only white rhinos in Uganda. With a guide you can walk in the footsteps of these giants and observe them in their natural environment. It is hoped that Ziwa will form the foundations of a new and stable population of rhinos in Uganda which means that by visiting, you will be directly contributing to the conservation of one of Africa's most incredible species.
