Last Word Kommetjie: Our View

Anyone wishing to explore the more natural joys of Cape Town will welcome the tranquillity of The Last Word, Long Beach at Kommetjie. It is far from the centre of town and menus are simple, but the National Parks and beaches of the peninsula are close at hand, and there is a lot to explore here.

We give this 5 stars as a great exclusive retreat on Cape Town’s most scenic and remote beach

Last Word Kommetjie: The Detail

At the very end of Cape Town, on the other side of Chapman’s Peak, The Last Word; Long Beach is a very special hideaway with a wonderfully wild aspect. It is tiny, but maximises quality in just six large, comfortable and well appointed rooms with superbly considerate service. The sea here is properly impressive… a roaring, rolling Atlantic surf to freeze your toes and thrill your senses, speckled with little black surfers from dawn til dusk. The rolling sands extend miles to Noerdhoek, and you can enjoy it all from the glorious vantage of your balcony. The views are superb, a truly magical bed and memorable breakfast.

The Last Word is a tiny chain of five brilliantly smart properties that will suit anyone seeking fab accommodation away from the crowds.  (They also keep a private yacht for charter if you prefer…). Tiny, smart, discreet, expensive, and sumptuously comfortable, this little chain of ‘intimate hotels’ is your best choice if you want to stay somewhere with a soul, with a smile, with a proper personal welcome.

Each room at Kommetjie is large, equipped with sunhats, kikois and beach towels for the wild white sands beyond your balcony. Baths are deep and showers are powerful, guests enjoy  candlelit evening bedrooms and the breakfasts are delicious. Cars are kept within the electric gated compound, and all guests are greeted by great house staff, always at hand to help. Fishing trips, guided tours of Cape Town or the peninsula can be arranged, dietary requirements are catered to. The overall sensation is that you are staying at a friend’s very nice villa, but free to come and go as you please.

Tucked right back into the flowering suburbs, The Last Word Constantia is a villa-style hotel with fabulous flowering gardens. Its scent alone is therapy, but here you can also swim, take tea beneath the huge, leafy trees, or wander back for a cracking supper. The rooms are vast, great big comfortable beds and baths to return to after your days exploring Cape Town. This charming hotel has all the treats of a big hotel in a more intimate and secluded setting.
Other Reserves
Tswalu is a fantastic selection of world class game viewing lodges and wild reserves that we believe is the finest location in South Africa for authentic safari. Different to the more famous Kruger, Tswalu is a huge private game viewing area with a fine selection of big game and a character similar to the safari you find in much wilder destinations. Tswalu is also a superb destination for families.
