Amakoro Songa Lodge - The Facts

The decor in Amakoro Songa Lodge isn’t anything special, but it’s location is brilliant and it offers a lovely, extremely spacious base to explore the Volcanoes National Park. It comprises eight cottages with ensuite rooms, leather sofas, fireplaces and big bath tubs. The luxury here isn’t necessarily in the modcons or amenities, but can be assigned to the huge cottages each guest can enjoy all to themselves. With only eight rooms, guests get a personalised experience at Amakoro, where other lodges are focused solely on the outdoor gorilla adventures.

Meanwhile, the main area is a big, glass-fronted thatched building with lots of relaxation spots. Expect beautiful candle-lit al fresco dining, undulating preened gardens, and an atmospheric firepit where guests can convene to recount the adventures of the day. As well as gorilla trekking, guests can also enjoy spending time with the golden monkeys, who also call the forests home.

The whole lodge has a lovely chunky wooden feel, and rooms are spacious with ensuites and all-important private verandas, so guests can fully experience Rwanda’s beautiful rolling scenery with misty mountain mornings and pink sunsets.
