Our View

Karibu has a great atmosphere, great rooms and is excellent value. If you wan’t spas, swimming pools and Michelin food this isn’t for you. But if you’re keen to get a well positioned cheerful stay without any fuss, Karibu is just the ticket.

Karibu Entebbe - the details

Positioned on a hillside of Entebbe, most people pass through Karibu for a night on the way to, or way back from, seeing what Uganda has to offer. Many guests will be heading to the jungle to spend time with gorillas or chimpanzees, or both, and this lodge provides a brilliant welcome or goodbye to Uganda.

The eight rooms are surrounded by beautiful tropical gardens, but importantly they also have air con, ensuring you have a comfortable stay, which is simple in its facilities but memorable in its owner-run atmosphere.

Although Karibu isn’t a super polished hotel, it is certainly not sub-standard. The cocktails are icy and delicious, the beds four posters, staff are friendly, and there is still an inviting pool. Everything is done very well, but just without a dash of uber luxury some safari-goers might be used to.

However, it does have the intimacy of a safari lodge that’s hard to come by in city hotels, making it feel like a characterful home away from home for a night or two.

If you’re a group of four people, there’s a seriously appealing option in taking the whole of Angama cottage, which is set apart from the main hotel. With a private garden and roof terrace, this would make for a tempting - and wholly affordable - option for families or groups of friends.

Most importantly for an Entebbe hotel, it’s just a ten minute drive away from the airport, meaning you can maximise your holiday time in this brilliant little boutique hotel.
