Best Luxury Safari Lodges
With plenty of options to choose from, selecting your safari accommodation isn't easy. Different lodges can offer different experiences depending on what you are after from your holiday. Some lodges will only have small guest occupancy and offer intimate experiences, whereas other camps will cater for larger groups.
Camps can also be mobile meaning that they are not permanent structures and they will relocate depending on the season and where the animals are most likely to be. Due to the accommodation manoeuvring regularly, these camps are normally made up from a number of luxury tents. These tents however, dispel all traditional myths of what may come to mind if you think of camping. Their furnishings are luxurious and all your needs will be met. Their placement is also extra-close to the action and will certainly make you feel more at one with nature. If you have the opportunity to stay in these mobile camps, do it.

Just like the safari camps, there are many varying options when it comes to accommodation by the beach. Generally the more you pay, the more intimate and luxurious your accommodation will be, however we have options that can cater for all budgets. It is very hard to rank Africa lodges with one simple measure! Our ranking is subjective and tries to reflect value for money as well as overall quality. Therefore we may award just three stars to certain 'five star' lodges in the hotel, or five stars to some superb, unashamed 'three star' hotels that are great value for money.

Entamanu Ngorongoro - Ngorongoro Crater
Entamanu was all that we could have hoped for and more. The location is amazing, the views down into the crater are probably the best thing that I’ve ever seen. The Nomad staff and guides are amazing, we saw loads of game down in the Crater too – the best was a big lion pack with lots of cubs and we followed them for ages. They were playing around and totally oblivious to us! I couldn’t recommend this place highly enough, the Crater is an amazing place and made only more special by our guide. - M. Swaythey

Essque Zalu, Zanzibar - hotel attractive well run new hotel at N tip of Zanzibar. Service excellent and food good - but they could have managed a more varied menu. Sea view villa and surrounds were terrific as was swimming pool. - M Braithwaite

Ewanjan - Serengeti, Central
Ewanjan Tented Camp is the permanent sister camp to Lemala's Ndutu and Mara River mobile camps. Set in the game rich Seronera Valley of the central Serengeti. The camp offers breathtaking views of the Serengeti plains with great year around game viewing.
Between April and June and from November through to January this area receives the wildebeest migration, turning the area into an exciting wildlife paradise having said this, the Seronera valley is renowned for its year round game viewing due to its abundance of water, as well as its large population of resident cats.

Fanjove Island Just what we were looking for. A true beach escape, with amazing fresh seafood and plenty of activities around the island like snorkeling, kayaking, and even a little scrabble. The bandas on the island were breathtaking. - K Corner

Faru Faru - Serengeti, Western Corridor
Our trip was amazing and all thanks to your team. We were extremely grateful for the detailed itinerary and how professional everyone was! We felt very secure that we would get to where we needed to on time always too! I heard of nightmare transfers and I’m glad we did not experience any of that. Four Seasons Safari Lodge - Serengeti, Central
Bilila Lodge Kempinski - The location is of course beautiful, situated in the Seronera area of the Serengeti. We were collected from the airstrip by a superb driver who turned-out to be our guide/driver for all the private game-drives we'd organised through the hotel.The hotel itself is luxurious and stylish, delivering all modern requirements yet somehow without losing the true feeling of being in the middle of the Serengeti with the most perfect of views available from hotel rooms, infiniti pool, terrace or restaurant.
Staff were brilliant and incredibly friendly, providing world-class service. The food was again world-class and to rival some Michelin rated restaurants in my opinion.
The real star of the show is of course the Serengeti itself and our very skilled and friendly driver/guide showed superb knowledge and got us around to see everything possible. That included two sightings of leopards and even a pair of mating lions, which I'd assume is relatively rare. My wife and I were very impressed none-the-less.
This Kempinski hotel demonstrated what's possible with some thought and attention, offering true luxury in the middle of the Serengeti for those wanting to experience the place without perhaps sleeping under canvas.

Foxes Katavi Wildlife camp - Katavi
This lovely little camp, although simple, is what we think Katavi and safari is all about. Very comfortable considering where you are, the camp benefits hugely from having a prime spot at the mouth of the Katuma River. Every day, during the dry season, a whole host of game can be seen wandering into what is the only water source for miles around. It is common to have lion feasting right by your tent! Katavi is definitely one of the three parks in Africa where the wilderness experience has not been tamed.

Fumba Beach Lodge - Zanzibar, West Coast
On the whole, this is a very good hotel with the Suites standing out as a very good option. The communal area for the hotel is really what makes it and while the rooms are all very clean and tidy, the only drawback for us is that, unless you are in one of the suites, the beach is pretty much non-existent. The only bit of beach here is yellow and not the white sand like on the other side of the island.

Gemma D'ell Este - Zanzibar, West Coast
Whilst it is certainly one of the largest hotels that we offer, has a range of room options which allows it to still feel relatively intimate...of which the Executive Villa is the pick. The hotel is probably not worthy of the five stars of which it boasts, but, all the same, the standards of service and the beach speak for themselves. Personally I veer away from hotels of this type, but it will certainly remain popular non-the-less.
