Karangoma is a new camp, having opened in May 2024, but it’s established itself as a desirable Okavango Delta option already. It has a unique selling point in that it was established with the local Bukakhwe San community, so guests gain cultural insights other companies can’t claim.

Karangoma - The Facts

The name itself is a Sembukushu word describing drum beating, ancestral healing, and bringing a good future to the tribe.

With just six tented suites, this Karangoma is a back to basics option - something the ever-plush Okavango Delta isn’t always known for. With some of the most expensive, luxurious camps on the continent, this area is known for some of the smartest lodges on the continent.

But Karangoma offers something better than mod cons. It encourages guests to reconnect with nature and take the speed of life down, while also learning from an entirely different culture. This isn’t a place for zooming around trying to find a lion - although you probably will - but it’s somewhere to strip back on fuss, and embrace being in the beautiful Okavango Delta wilderness.

Rooms are set out overlooking a floodplain in the north-eastern part of the Okavango Delta fan, sheltered under a canopy of mopane trees. Each of the six spacious rooms contain a bedroom, lounge, and a bathroom, as well as indoor and outdoor showers. The main area has a seating and dining area, as well as a fire pit and plunge pool.

Here, guests can enjoy game drives, night drives, walking, boating and mekoros - depending on the season. Importantly you can get back to nature and learn something new, all with a nice splash of luxury to remind you this is the Delta, and a top quality safari experience.
