Sable Alley is a brilliant option for those who want a world-class safari without compromising on luxury. The price hugely varies from low to high seasons, so it’s definitely worth looking at shoulder months if you want a good deal. The Khwai concession of the Okavango Delta is formerly a hunting reserve, but Natural Selection are proud of its conservation success story, as since they took it over wildlife has flooded back into the area. Set between the Chobe National Park and the Moremi Game Reserve, the safaris here are now fabulous.

Sable Alley - The Facts

12 rooms line the banks of a lagoon, which is home to hippo, and also attracts elephants and buffalo. Each canvas-walled suite is bright and open, with a mini indoor seating area and chic, modern decor. The front doors can slide open for uninterrupted views of the water, and outdoor showers offer an added luxury. There is one honeymoon suite with an outdoor tub, and interconnected family options available too.

The communal area is raised on wooden walkways, with a firepit, a large lounge, deck area, a bar, and a separate pool hang out spot, all with brilliant views of the lagoon. Dinner is either enjoyed in the undercover dining area or out on the deck underneath the stars. There is also a spa with various massages and treatments available.

Activities on offer in the 200,000 hectare reserve include boating and mokoro rides, walking safaris and the classic game drives. Big cats are plentiful here, with lion, leopard and cheetah often patrolling the area for unsuspecting antelope.

Given Khwai used to be a hunting concession, the reserve’s rangers are meticulous about recording wildlife numbers in the area, and guests can head out with them before dawn to see how they ensure conservation efforts are not in vain.
