Fishing In Zambia
The tigerfish of the great Zambezi are a worthy adversary for the most devoted fisherman. These river fish, grown seriously powerful living against the current of this formidable river, are the only freshwater species to rival the saltwater variety for power and aggression.
Tiger fishing on the Zambezi is not for the feint-hearted, and should always be undertaken with professional knowledge and guidance. Unlike the running rivers of Scotland, these waters are also inhabited by crocodiles, hippopotami and can be marred by tsetse flies; yet also allow you to watch giraffe, elephant and other stunning African wildlife while you fish.
Livingstone is on the Zambian side of the Falls, the old capital of Zambia and a hive of activity in the area nowadays. With a cluster of larger hotels around the Falls themselves and stunning river lodges upstream, Livingstone also has a colonial town centre lined with fascinating if somewhat decaying Victorian buildings. The city is our destination of choice for travellers visiting Victoria Falls.
Trapped between a vast escarpment and the mighty Zambezi river, the Lower Zambezi is without doubt one of Africa's most beautiful parks. The diversity of activities here is also wider than anywhere else on the continent - boating safaris, canoe trips, game drives at day and night and some fantastic walking areas combine with some of the worlds best Tiger fish fishing. In a nutshell, this is an outrageously good safari park, on all counts.
The best time for fishing the Lower Zambezi and Lake Kariba is between August and November, although fishing itineraries can always be planned around your travel dates.
SERIOUSLY GOOD FISHING!Sausage Tree is without any question the most opulently luxurious lodge in the Lower Zambezi. Whether this is actually a good thing, we will let you decide! The activities and guiding are set as high as any of the camps in the park and the location is good.
There are a few camps in Africa that have everything just right....Chiawa is without doubt one of these, regarded by us as one of the top lodges anywhere. The guiding is phenomenal, the location is perfect and this place is run by the family who are the main reason for the Lower Zambezi's success as a National Park.
What a setting and what a great little camp. Our last consultant here had thirty elephant in camp the day he was leaving and literally had to be picked up by vehicle from his room! Recently a vote in the office put Old Mondoro as one of our favourite adventurous camps in the whole of Africa.
