With plenty of options to choose from, selecting your safari accommodation isn't easy. Different lodges can offer different experiences depending on what you are after from your holiday. Some lodges will only have small guest occupancy and offer intimate experiences, whereas other camps will cater for larger groups.
Camps can also be mobile meaning that they are not permanent structures and they will relocate depending on the season and where the animals are most likely to be. It is very hard to rank Africa lodges with one simple measure! Our ranking is subjective and tries to reflect value for money as well as overall quality. Therefore we may award just three stars to certain 'five star' lodges in the hotel, or five stars to some superb, unashamed 'three star' hotels that are great value for money.

Cottars - Greater Mara
Our View
Cottars is set down to the South East of the Mara away from the crowds of the more popular western Mara region. On the whole the guiding is good from the camp and the experience of riding through the bush in a replica 20s car is novel. The region has good resident prides and, due to its secluded location, has an intimate safari feel. One of the most unique camps in Kenya....but quite a pricey one!

Cousine Island - Other Islands
Cousine Island is a great 4 room hotel on a private island. There is a great beach in front of the hotel and nature walks through the forested interior are very interesting. Guided nature walks and snorkeling are readily available, the conservation guide will take you on a journey through Cousine Island’s past. For the more adventurous at heart there is also a range of diving, fishing and day excursions on offer.

Crocodile Camp - South Luangwa
Our View
As with all of the Remote Africa safari camps, the standard of guiding and simple approach to safari accommodation is what sets this camp apart from virtually everywhere else. Guiding here is up there with the best in Africa. The camp is rustic and simple yet don’t be put off, Crocodile is actually finished to a very high standard. A safari connoisseur's choice and a camp from which so many other bush camps should learn lessons from!

Run by the local community, Damaraland Camp is a pioneering eco-tourism camp that has won numerous awards for its approach to sustainable tourism. Davisons Camp - Hwange
Our View
Davisons Camp lies deep in Hwange National Park, in the south-eastern Linkwasha Concession - one of the best game viewing areas of the entire Park. It is a classic African tented camp, with the units tastefully hidden beneath a grove of false mopane trees, overlooking a waterhole and open plain.This camp is rather rustic and lacks many of the mod cons which gives it its charm. The water hole is a hive of game activity which most of the tents overlook. There are few camps that you can watch such an abundance of game right from your tent veranda.
