Best Luxury Safari Lodges
With plenty of options to choose from, selecting your safari accommodation isn't easy. Different lodges can offer different experiences depending on what you are after from your holiday. Some lodges will only have small guest occupancy and offer intimate experiences, whereas other camps will cater for larger groups.
Camps can also be mobile meaning that they are not permanent structures and they will relocate depending on the season and where the animals are most likely to be. Due to the accommodation manoeuvring regularly, these camps are normally made up from a number of luxury tents. These tents however, dispel all traditional myths of what may come to mind if you think of camping. Their furnishings are luxurious and all your needs will be met. Their placement is also extra-close to the action and will certainly make you feel more at one with nature. If you have the opportunity to stay in these mobile camps, do it.

Just like the safari camps, there are many varying options when it comes to accommodation by the beach. Generally the more you pay, the more intimate and luxurious your accommodation will be, however we have options that can cater for all budgets. The beach hotels we offer can either be the base for a perfect romantic getaway or for an ideal adventure and activity filled holiday.

It is very hard to rank Africa lodges with one simple measure! Our ranking is subjective and tries to reflect value for money as well as overall quality. Therefore we may award just three stars to certain 'five star' lodges in the hotel, or five stars to some superb, unashamed 'three star' hotels that are great value for money.

Mbalageti Lodge - Serengeti, Western Corridor
Whilst Mbalageti Lodge is comparatively large compared with many other camps/lodges in the Western Corridor, the quality and location of the lodge (in terms of service, food etc) more than makes of for this fact. All in all Mbalageti Lodge would definitely be one of our favourites within the Western Corridor, but if your budget and taste permits, the smaller more intimate mobile tented camps would be our first recommendation in the area.

Mdonya Old River Camp - Ruaha
Mdonya river camp is superb value for money .Our love for wildlife was recognised from the outset , and we enjoyed a vehicle to ourselves for the 4 nights we were there.The food was great although to be fair we did not always know exactly what we were eating ,and the camp ambience fantastic.- T Platt

Medjumbe - Quirimbas Archipelago
It is a new lodge that in our view is still to really prove itself, However it is set in an idyllic and romantic location offering the perfect start or end to a honeymoon. The lodge is also very generously priced and have a great service. But the issue with it is getting there as it is a lot of travelling.

Mena House - Giza, Cairo
Our View
Mena House is the place to stay if you are in Cairo ostensibly to see the pyramids; mainly because you can, from your balcony.Luxurious, comfortable, quiet, and convenient, Mena House also has a hint of its history to create an atmosphere to allay too many ‘Big Impersonal Hotel’ feelings, and although it is no longer run by the Oberoi, we very much hope that nothing will change.
(It is also worth mentioning their memorably wonderful Egyptian breakfast... think figs, fresh honeycomb, melon and dates, all enjoyed in a sun-dappled dining room with old lattice wood shutters).

Meno a Kwena - Makgadikgadi Pans
Our View
Meno a Kwena is a small and intimate lodge that has long been home of the famous David Dugmore! Consisting of 8 simple, yet effective tents the lodge is located on the traditionally dry Boteti River, to the south east of Maun. With great views down to the river bed below, this camp is the perfect place to start or end a trip as a short drive out of Maun and offering very good value for money.

Mfuwe Lodge - South Luangwa
Our View
We're a bit undecided about Mfuwe Lodge - it is inside the main gate which is a huge bonus and means the wonders of the park are right on the doorstep. However, it also mean the entrance road is also on the doorstep to one stretch of the chalets - avoid the 'buffalo' line or you'll have safari traffic disturbing you when you're trying to siesta. Having said that, it's a great lodge - it's on the big side and not to everyone's taste, so depends what you're after, but it's got some great guiding and works well as an overnighter before heading into the bush camps. It's also famous for the elephants walking through the reception later in the year - quite a spectacle!

Miavana - Nosy Ankao
Dreamy, dreamy dreamy - we put off our trip to Madagascar until Miavana had finally opened and it was amazing - so well worth the wait. Getting to Diego Suarez was an adventure in itself but from then the helicopter to and from the island was a breeze.- J Elliot

Migration Camp - Serengeti, North
Migration Camp was our favourite - a bit off the beaten tourist trap so not so many vehicles around. Game was a little harder to find as landscape is not so open but it was a good contrast with the central Serengeti area and we did see thousands of grazing migration animals in the north and along the Western Corridor.- J Stirrat
